Mexico Beach, Florida
For years when my family was young, and still today, "some beach somewhere" was and still is our destination of choice! We have checked out many beaches over the years, and usually go to the beach when we have at least five days to spend. Some thrill for their sheer beauty; others for their amenities and full range of activities. Mexico Beach would fall into the former category. If you want a getaway that is truly "away from it all," Mexico Beach is for you.

For starters, how 'bout this picture? Yeah, what you see is what you get! Gorgeous blue waters, white sandy beaches...paradise! And unlike the other beautiful, white sandy beaches on the gulf coast of Flordia, there is a good possibility you may have the beach all to yourself on any given weekday.
Mexico Beach is located approximtely two hours east of Panama City and two hours south of Tallahassee, but truly feels a world away. If I lived in Tallahassee, Mexico Beach would be my weekend destination as many weekends as I could possibly make it happen! It's about a seven-hour drive from Atlanta.
If you're looking for night life, shopping, putt-putt and a myriad of family activities, head on up to Panama City, the party town, and find all that. But if you are looking for a getaway with peace, quiet and a journey back in time, Mexico Beach gives you all that and more. We took that step back in time, staying at the El Governor Motel (850-648-5757). The El Governor has been around for quite a while and is nothing fancy, but it was clean and the view was unmatched. Below, the El Governor Motel (beach view), and our morningtime and nighttime views from our balcony. Oh, yeah...
Finding a good place to eat is a bit more challenging in Mexico City as compared to Panama City or Destin, Florida. But the great food is there, it's just more than likely housed in a hole-in-the-wall. It's well worth the hunt if you're looking for a peaceful getaway with the beach to yourself, devoid of traffic and thousands of people.
